Synopsis

Prospect for Success: A Campus Guide for Developing Success, Inquiry and Cultural Awareness in First Year Students was developed and written by faculty and staff involved in the Prospect for Success program at UNC Charlotte. The Prospect for Success (Prospect or PFS) is UNC Charlotte’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), part of its campus accreditation process through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The Prospect is an engagement curriculum launched in 2013 and built around three curricular goals for first-year students: Commitment to Success, Inquiry and Cultural Awareness. Chapter 1 of the book describes the development of the Prospect for Success and a brief analysis of results to date. Chapter 2 of this book, “Taking Stock of Prospect,†is in three parts and focuses on “doing Prospectâ€: that is, ways in which the three SLOs have evolved and been implemented in courses, and how the project as a whole has taken shape. Chapter 3, “Looking Forward,†addresses the future of Prospect at UNC Charlotte. The authors look at future possibilities for Prospect by examining potential future directions of the Student Learning Outcomes as well as how Prospect, as a signature program, contributes to discussions of providing depth and breadth to undergraduates’ academic experiences.
